INSHORE:
The cool mornings and pleasant days are
telling us fall is near in Central Florida. The Lagoon, Indian, and
Banana Rivers are on fire with limits of trout all week and cruising
tarpon on the flats. Tarpon are also all over the river and at the
inlet. Reds are plentiful, with the water levels rising over a foot
during the past several weeks, the redfish have plenty of areas to
visit that were inaccessible during the summer. Many of the large
redfish have moved to the deeper basins for their spawn. When you
can find the reds on the flats, however, they have been willing to
eat a variety of lures. The ladyfish frothing still continues
along any drop off where the fish have the bait backed up against
the flat. Pompano are along the deeper troughs in the same area and
will hit a small chartreuse Gulp squid. The snook are at the docks
and around some select mangroves. Watch for those monster
Snook to just appear.. that's NOT a tree trunk up in that shallow
water, cast to it!! Live finger mullet or any large white plastics
are bending our rods!
Much of my time the past couple weeks has been
dedicated to chasing tarpon on the beach- Some 100 pounders out
there. Look for the bait pods and you should be on quickly.
Inshore you can find at least a few every day and some days they are
quite plentiful. I have gotten them to eat Terror Eyz, and white sea
shads. There are only a few weeks left to consistently find them in
our river so keep your eyes open and be prepared with the proper
tackle.
